Intellectual honesty

"Intellectual honesty is one of the supreme goals of philosophy of religion, just as self-deception is the chief source of corruption in religious thinking, more deadly than error.  Hypocrisy rather than heresy is the cause of spiritual decay.  "Thou desirest truth in the inwardness" of man (Psalm 51)."  --Abraham Joshua Heschel.  God in Search of Man.
